Event Will Bring Together Stakeholders to Discuss Smart Grid Cybersecurity, Microgrids, and More
The
Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a public-private partnership led by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will hold its inaugural conference
November 5-7, 2013, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The event provides a chance for Smart Grid stakeholders to come together to engage on a wide range of pressing issues and challenges associated with the development, installation, and deployment of Smart Grid technology in the United States. The
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is an official supporter of the conference and encourages all interested parties to take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage with Smart Grid-related issues.
Henry Kenchington, deputy assistant secretary of energy for Advanced Grid Integration, will serve as the event's opening keynote speaker. Other speakers include:
- Thomas Gross, vice chairman and chief operating officer - electrical sector, Eaton Corporation
- Philip Hanser, principal, the Brattle Group
- Hiroshi Kuniyoshi, executive director, New Energy & Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and secretary general of the Japan Smart Community Alliance (JSCA)
- John Norris, commissioner, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
- Lisa Polak-Edgar, commissioner, Florida Public Service Commission
- Leocadia Zak, director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA)
Participants will have the opportunity to attend and take part in an array of sessions, panels, and working group meetings on issues central to the Smart Grid, including transactive energy, microgrids, cybersecurity, the Internet of things, and the harmonization of interoperability standards, among other important topics. In addition, NIST will provide a special introduction to the third release of the NIST Smart Grid Framework, a comprehensive roadmap providing guidance on transforming the U.S. electrical power system into an interoperable Smart Grid [see related story]. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in networking breaks and other informal gatherings.
