Reminder: Registration for Upcoming Homeland Security Meeting Closes November 1

10/25/2010
The American National Standards Institute Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP) reminds all interested stakeholders that registration for the HSSP's ninth annual plenary meeting closes Monday, November 1, just one week from now. To be held November 9-10, 2010, in Arlington, VA, the meeting will focus on standards for aviation, border and maritime security, crisis management, and global supply chain security.

Leading experts from federal agencies, standards developing organizations, and stakeholders from the U.S. and Europe will share information on these topics with an eye toward identifying areas where standards may be needed. The ANSI-HSSP Plenary provides the unique opportunity for the homeland security, emergency preparedness, and business continuity communities to come together to discuss strategic approaches to current challenges, recent successes, and future outlooks.

Featured in the agenda are the following five panels:

Aviation Security Standardization
This panel will focus on the need for new or revised standards for X-ray technology for the screening of persons, cargo, and baggage, as well as explosives detection.

Borders and Maritime Security Standardization
An information exchange on U.S. and European standardization priorities in biometrics, video surveillance performance, border and travel documentation, and standards activities related to technology and automated algorithms.

Conformity Assessment Systems
This panel will address current conformity assessment efforts underway in Europe and/or the U.S.

Global Supply Chain Security Standardization
A discussion on standards activities underway in Europe and the U.S. related to land, sea, and air cargo container security, the use of radio frequency identification (RFID), asset tracking, and security labels.

Crisis Management Standardization
This panel will facilitate a dialogue on how Europe and the U.S. can collaborate to establish a common list of standards and reference terms for managing crisis situations.

Sponsors of the event include the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), HID Global, and the Homeland Security Studies and Analysys Institute.
