Groups Interested in Administering the U.S. TAG to ISO 154 Should Contact ANSI

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is currently seeking stakeholder organizations interested in administering the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC)
154,
Processes, data elements and documents in commerce, industry and administration. Since its creation in 1972, ISO TC 154 has played an important role in international standardization, overseeing work on ISO 9735,
Electronic data interchange for administration, commerce and transport (EDIFACT) - Application level syntax rules, and other essential documents.
ISO TC 154 is responsible for the development of International Standards on topics connected to industrial data exchange and management. The TC and its working groups (WGs) are currently focused on standards related to the Open Data Interchange Framework (ODIF) and long-term electronic signature profiles, among other activities. The U.S. TAG to ISO TC 154 is responsible for advising ANSI on voting positions relevant to proposed and in-development standards, and carrying out detailed discussions related to these documents.
In response to calls from U.S. groups for the creation of a second part to ISO 8601, Data elements and interchange formats - Information interchange - Representation of dates and times, TC 154 recently established WG 5, Representation of dates and times. However, these and other activities important to U.S. interests will be carried out by the committee without any U.S. input if a new TAG administrator is not found.
Participation in the U.S. TAG to ISO TC 154 carries with it significant benefits for a participating organization, including:
- Bolstering the organization's ability to strategically plan for and implement technical activities related to U.S. electronic document exchanges, including EDI and XML, as well as metadata standards, date time formats used in application systems, electronic profiles used in digital security standards, and digital signature profiles for interoperability
- The opportunity to help develop the official U.S. position for standards used in the implementation of single-window international trade import-export systems required by a February 2014 Executive Order, and for metadata standards supporting White House Memorandum M-13-13, which requires government agencies to create and manage information in a manner consistent with open formats, data standards, and extensible metadata
- Opportunities to collaborate with international stakeholders representing other participating ISO member nations, including China, Japan, South Korea, and Germany
