People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Security Industry Association (SIA), an accredited standards developer and member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Don Erickson as the organization's next CEO. He previously served as SIA's government relations director, since 2006.

In his former position Mr. Erickson served as SIA's chief advocate before Congress and government agencies and implemented key SIA public policy initiative. He serves as SIA's representative to the Department of Homeland Security Emergency Services Sector Advisory Committee and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Stakeholder Communications Committee.

Prior to SIA, Mr. Erickson was manager of legislative affairs for Alcatel, and legislative director for the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies (OPASTCO). He spent six years on the senior legislative staff of U.S. Senator Rod Grams (R-Minn.), where he facilitated the enactment of legislation pertaining to telecommunications and technology policy. He is a graduate of the Catholic University of America.

SIA is a trade group for businesses in the electronic and physical security market. Among other activities on behalf of its members and constituents, the organization advocates pro-industry policies and legislation on the state and national levels, creates open industry standards that enable integration, and advanced industry innovation and professionalism through research, education, and training.


ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the IAPMO Group has named Richard L. Beck as director of IAPMO Evaluation Services (ES). He is a 30-year veteran of the construction industry, with more than 25 years of expertise in all aspects of building codes and standards.

Mr. Beck joins IAPMO ES following 26 years in various technical and managerial positions with the International Code Council (ICC), most recently as senior staff engineer for ICC-ES. Prior to ICC he designed nuclear power plants and stations for Southern Company Services and the Tennessee Valley Authority. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama.

The IAPMO Group was formed in 1936 as the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials to protect public health and safety by working with government and industry on the implementation of comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems around the world. IAPMO utilizes an open consensus process that includes scientific research, debate, and analysis in the development of its flagship Uniform Plumbing Code® and Uniform Mechanical Code®.
