February ANSI Caucus Welcomes White House National Economic Council Advisor on Technology and Innovation Phil Weiser

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011. The meeting will feature guest speaker Phil Weiser, White House national economic council advisor on technology and innovation.

Mr. Weiser serves as co-chair of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Subcommittee on Standards, which seeks to engage government agencies on standards policy issues, articulate the U.S. model of public-private cooperation in standards setting to domestic and international audiences, and increase awareness within the federal government of best practices in addressing standards policy issues. Mr. Weiser will serve as moderator of the January 25 Roundtable on Federal Government Engagement in Standards hosted by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Mr. Weiser is the founder and executive director of Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, which focuses on spurring interdisciplinary engagement, facilitating community outreach, and supporting interest in the intersection of technology, policy and business.

Previously, Mr. Weiser served as assistant attorney general for international, policy, and appellate matters at the U.S. Department of Justice. He was as a professor and associate dean for research at the University of Colorado‘s School of Law and Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program, and a visiting Professor at the New York University School of Law (2008) and the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Law (2006).

Mr. Weiser also served as a lead agency reviewer of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for the Presidential Transition Team, and serves as co-chair of the Colorado Innovation Council.

Sponsored by ANSI, the February Caucus will be held from 11:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, Zenger Room) in Washington, DC. RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
