NEMA White Paper Outlines Best Practices for Electroindustry Customer Cybersecurity
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a white paper identifying the best practices for electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers to follow when providing their customers with cybersecurity information.
NEMA CPSP 3-2019, Cyber Hygiene Best Practices Part 2, outlines how manufacturers and customers can collaborate to improve the level of cybersecurity.
"Managing cybersecurity is a coordinated effort between the manufacturers that build cyber-secure products and systems and their customers who follow good cyber-hygiene practices," said Jim Gilsinn, former principal engineer for industrial control systems and cybersecurity at Kenexis. "The practices and guidelines described in this document are meant to help customers effectively manage their cybersecurity expectations as they utilize manufactured equipment within the context of their respective markets (e.g., commercial and residential buildings, industrial equipment, the electrical grid, hospitals, and surface transportation)."

NFPA Offers Free Podcasts on the Fluid Power Industry
The National Fluid Power Association, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched a podcast.
"Fluid Power Forum," with episodes available on demand on NFPA's website, covers a variety of topics focused on the fluid power industry. Listeners will hear about the people, technologies, and unique applications that drive the industry. New episodes are released every other Monday. The most recent episode, available now, is about the budding industry of Internet of Things condition monitoring for fluid power systems.

NACE Podcast Discusses the Water Crisis in Flint
NACE International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has a new two-part podcast on the Flint water crisis, which started when a change in water source for the area and insufficient water treatment caused lead from water pipes to be leached into drinking water.
The first episode of "Flint Phenomenon" covers the causes of lead contamination in the city's drinking water, and how the situation was managed. Listeners will hear a discussion on the difficulty in identifying and replacing lead pipe, both in Flint and across the U.S. The second episode explores the science behind the problem and the difficulty monitoring lead in water systems, as well as the use of corrosion inhibitors and water filters, and the changing standards of lead in metals and drinking water. This episode also provides an update on how Flint is doing today.

New Jersey Adopts ICC's 2018 International Codes
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that the State of New Jersey adopted its 2018 International Codes (I-Codes). Updated every three years, the codes are the most widely used and adopted set of building safety codes nationally and internationally.
"Safety is the number one priority, especially in this day in age," said Stephen Jones, New Jersey's government relations regional manager at ICC. "The I-Codes provide minimum safeguards for people at home, at school and in the workplace. Having the latest technology readily available in New Jersey helps protect its residents against building failures, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, high-rise fires and other modern-day disasters. As the state continued to recover from the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey's officials recognized the need to provide its residents with the highest level of construction safety possible. The adoption of the latest editions of the I-Codes help to ensure structural integrity and resilience for all of New Jersey's residents."
