People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The National Restaurant Association, an organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Kenneth Walters as vice president of sales for strategic accounts. Mr. Walters will focus on strategies for diversifying the association's ServSafe food safety product portfolio, leveraging partner products, and expanding restaurant chain programs. The ServSafe program is accredited by ANSI's Conference for Food Protection (ANSI-CFP), an accreditation program for organizations involved in the certification of food protection managers.

Mr. Walters brings more than 25 years of sales and management experience to the National Restaurant Association. Previously, he was client services manager/food safety at Prometric, where he assisted in developing and implementing the ANSI-CFP standards for accreditation, including all aspects of ANSI audit compliance. Prior to that, he held key positions at Office Max, Galyans Sports & Outdoors, and Sportmart. Mr. Walters holds a BS from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business.

Founded in 1919, the National Restaurant Association is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of a workforce of nearly 13 million people by promoting job creation, healthy living, sustainability, and responsible stewardship.


SES - The Society for Standards Professionals has announced the appointment of Mike Morrell, AStd, FSES, as executive director. In this role, Mr. Morrell will work to further SES's mission of promoting public awareness and knowledge of standards and standardization.

Mr. Morrell has been an active member of SES for 30 years and has served in nearly every position on the SES board of directors. Most recently he served as the board treasurer, and previously he has served as president, vice president, secretary, and SES conference committee chair. Mr. Morrell brings 37 years of expertise from the private sector, having served in the engineering standards department at Deere & Company until his retirement in 2011. Mr. Morrell has received the grade of SES fellow and SES certification as an AStd.

SES provides a neutral forum where standards users and developers can come together to address mutual issues, opportunities, and interests in ways that work to the benefit of everyone involved with, or affected by, standards.
