The American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) 2017 Spring Company Member Forum Meeting (CMF) on April 25-26 is set to highlight emerging strategic standardization issues.
The CMF event, to be held at National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) headquarters in Quincy, MA, will feature a keynote address by Laurance Stuntz, director of the Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech, on "Private and Public partnership initiatives: Massachusetts Digital Healthcare Council." Also on the agenda are presentations and interactive discussions on standardization for unmanned vehicles, issues related to the new administration, China standards reform, and more.
Attendees will also have a unique opportunity to tour the MIT Media Lab (optional tour), where researchers design technologies for people to create a better future, as well as opportunities to collaborate with colleagues to address industry-wide challenges faced by many other CMF members.

Tuesday, April 25:
NFPA Presentation and Discussion will be presented by Christian Dubay, vice president and chief engineer, NFPA.
Standards Management and Best Practices: Jim Matthews, director of technical standards & standards policy at Corning Incorporated, will moderate the session. Panelists will include Jennifer Kitchen, technical regulatory & standards advocacy leader, GE; Jason Matusow, general manager, international standards, Microsoft; Tim West, manager, engineering standards, Deere and Co.; and Alan Manche, vice president, external affairs, Schneider Electric.
Unmanned Vehicles: To be moderated by Jennifer Kitchen, technical regulatory & standards advocacy leader, GE, the session will cover existing standards, needed standards, and regulations for unmanned vehicles and address the challenges that companies and standardizers face as new technology emerges. Panelists will include Carole Franklin,director, standards development, Robotic Industries Association, Mary Mikolajewski, manager, technical committee Operations, ASTM International, Kenneth Witcher, Ph.D., associate professor and dean, College of Aeronautics, Embry-Riddle, Ed Conlin, division manager, Public Fire Protection, NFPA, and Tom McMahon, vice president, Advocacy and Public Affairs, Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).
China Standards Reform will cover the latest on China's standardization system reform, ANSI and U.S. industry engagement with China, and more. Jim Matthews will moderate, with panelists S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO; Jason Matusow, general manager, international standards, Microsoft; Hung Ling, director of standards policy, Nokia; and Jing Liu, China trade specialist at the International Trade Administration.
International Highlights will be presented by John Kulick, Ph.D., manager of standardization at U.S. Siemens, and will cover hot topics in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and issues of interest for companies emerging in international standards.
ANSI CMF Business will be presented by George Gulla, vice president of membership and publication sales, ANSI.
Wednesday, April 26:
New Administration, Trade Policy/Standardization & ANSI: Mary Saunders, vice president of government relations at ANSI, will present on how the CMF can better understand and anticipate how their companies may be affected by changes driven by new legislation as well as new administration and trade policies affecting national, regional, and global standardization.
Smart Manufacturing will feature updates and highlights from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), national initiatives, and breakout discussions.
Lunch and tour of MIT Media Lab
In addition, a networking reception and ANSI-sponsored dinner will take place on Tuesday, April 25 (location TBD).
