USNC Current Newsletter Focuses on Leadership Passing the Torch, Lessons for the Next Generation

11/14/2016

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published the fall 2016 issue of its quarterly newsletter, the USNC Current. The edition, entitled Passing the Torch, includes editorials from outgoing USNC leadership, including president Phil Piqueira (2010-2016), with professional insights and messages for the next generation, latest news on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Pacific Accreditation Workshop, and updates on wind and renewable energy.

The fall issue also includes coverage of the eight 2016 IEC Thomas A. Edison award recipients, who were recognized at the IEC 80th General Meeting in Frankfurt. The award is for exceptional achievements of the IEC technical committee (TC)/ subcommittee (SC) officers. Also catch up on the latest news on the Global Energy Interconnection, the ANSI Conference on the Next Generation in Standardization, and a white paper entitled IoT 2020: Smart and Secure IoT Platform, included in the issue.

A committee of ANSI, the USNC serves as the focal point for U.S. parties who are interested in the development, promulgation, and use of globally-relevant standards for the electrotechnical industry. The Committee is also engaged in the assessment of conformance to standards, undertaking work in areas such as testing, certification, and accreditation.

As the U.S. representative to the IEC and many related regional standardization bodies, the USNC is a conduit to the global standards-setting community for technical and policy positions arising in the U.S. and brings issues from the global arena to the U.S. for review, consideration, and response. Strong U.S. participation in the IEC is critical to national competitiveness and the continued growth and innovation in U.S. electrotechnical industries.

The Current is the USNC's popular electronic newsletter, distributed to the USNC membership but freely available to all interested stakeholders. USNC members and other experts in electrotechnology and standardization contribute original content of keen interest to the U.S. standardization community.
