Call for Comments on Proposed Procedural Revisions to ANS Process

11/15/2010
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced proposed procedural revisions to the American National Standards (ANS) process for public review and comment by December 6, 2010.

The proposed changes, which relate to alleged conflict and duplication within the ANS process, would amend the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards (ANSI Essential Requirements) and the Operating Procedures of the ANSI Executive Standards Council (ExSC). The revisions are posted in the ANSI Public Document Library.

The proposed revisions are intended to:

  • clarify procedural requirements;

  • propose a definition for "duplication" within the ANS process;

  • incorporate added details that define "good faith efforts";

  • introduce greater transparency with respect to the outcomes of PINS deliberation activities;

  • offer a sample PINS Deliberation Report; and

  • establish a specific role for the ANSI ExSC early in the ANS development process, as a potential mediator of whether "good faith" efforts were used to address conflict and/or duplication.

Interested parties are invited to submit specific written comments to [email protected] for consideration by the ANSI ExSC. The comment period ends Monday, December 6, 2010.
