Upcoming SES Webinars Focus on Standards in Corporate Planning and ANSI-USAID's Standards Alliance
The next webinar hosted by SES - The Society for Standards Professionals will focus on The Standards Alliance: an ANSI-USAID Public-Private Partnership.The event will feature Leslie McDermott, senior manager, international development, ANSI, and Cory O'Hara, division chief for regulatory reform programs, USAID, jointly presenting an overview of the Standards Alliance's accomplishments and ongoing activities in providing capacity-building assistance to developing countries. The event is scheduled for January 21, 2015, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm ET.
These webinars are offered free of charge to all current SES members and ANSI full member technical contacts; participation costs $50 for non-members. Additional information is available on the SES website.
Fiber Optic Association Offers New Online Course for Novices to Learn About Industry Processes
The Fiber Optic Association (FOA), an ANSI member, has added a new class to its Fiber U self-study course offerings. Basic Skills Lab is a free, self-paced online course where novices can learn the processes used in fiber optic installation, such as preparing cables, splicing, termination, and testing. Seasoned techs can also complete the course to refresh skills and pick up some new tips.
Instruction is delivered through a "Virtual Hands-On" method where processes are broken down into simple steps with clear instructions and pro tips, combined with YouTube lectures and other videos. FOA notes that in order to complete the online training properly, participants must have their own equipment and supplies.

SMPTE to Produce Motion-Imaging Technology Documentary
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) has announced that it is producing a documentary on the evolution of motion-imaging technology. The documentary will feature interviews with filmmakers, historians, entrepreneurs, and engineers as it details the development of motion-imaging technology since the turn of the 20th century, and how this technology has influenced the creation of artistic and creative content. The film, whose working title is "Moving Images," is planned to be released in a 90-minute theatrical feature format as well as a shorter television format.

National Environmental Balancing Bureau Applies for ANSI Accredited Standards Developer Status
The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) and proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on NEBB-sponsored American National Standards (ANS). NEBB's proposed scope of standards activity is standards that optimize building performance, including building enclosure testing, building systems commissioning (for new and existing buildings), cleanroom performance testing, fume hood testing, sound measurement, vibration measurement, testing, and adjusting and balancing of HVAC systems.
