People on the Move

5/29/2015

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

The Hydraulic Institute, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Michael B. Michaud as its executive director.

Mr. Michaud joins the Hydraulic Institute from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where he served as managing director, global alliances. He was responsible for ASME's global strategy execution and international business development, and grew an extensive network of global partners for the association. Previously, he held roles in ASME's Training and Professional Development portfolio, its Gas Turbine and Petroleum Technology Institutes, and its international membership departments.

Mr. Michaud is replacing Robert Asdal, who is retiring in June after 24 years as the Institute's executive director. Mr. Asdal led the organization in substantial growth in all areas, including size, scope, new standards and guidelines, educational programs, and engagement on public policy issues. With his guidance, the Institute has served as an industry leader to the U.S. Department of Energy with regard to a forthcoming rulemaking on pump efficiency.

Charles Cannon, president and CEO of the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), has announced that he will retire at the end of 2015.

Mr. Cannon has led RMA, an ANSI member and accredited standard developer, for nearly eight years. Under his guidance, the organization became a tire manufacturer-only trade association, and dealt with issues including tire service life and the initial rulemaking process for a federal consumer information program to create a rating system for tire fuel efficiency, tread wear, and wet tractions for consumers. He also led the organization in engaging in proactive safety initiatives such minimum standards for tire rolling resistance and wet traction.

"Charlie served our organization with energy, skill and vision, and the Board of Directors deeply appreciates his leadership," said Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America, Inc. and chairman of RMA's Board of Directors. "Charlie focused and strengthened RMA, and he retires with our thanks and our best wishes for the future."

The organization is currently searching for a new president and CEO. See RMA's website for the position description.
