October SES Webinar to Focus on Standards and Conformance for Marine Energy
ANSI member and accredited standards developer SES - The Society for Standards Professionals will hold a webinar focused on standardization in connection with marine energy on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET.
The webinar, IEC TC114 and the IECRE System, International Standards and Conformity Assessment Activities Relating to the Marine Energy Industry, will be led by Jonathan Colby, a hydronamic engineer with Verdant Power and a 2012 ANSI Next Generation Award recipient [see related story]. During the webinar, Mr. Colby will discuss the establishment of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee (TC) 114, Marine energy - Wave, tidal and other water current converters, and the IEC Renewable Energy (IECRE) System conformity assessment scheme, among other topics.
The webinar is offered free of charge to all current SES members and costs $50 for non-members. Under a reciprocal agreement between the two organizations, ANSI full member technical contacts are considered SES members and can take part in the webinar at no cost. NIBS Seeks Respondents for Survey on Off-Site Construction
ANSI member the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS)'s Off-Site Construction Council recently announced the launch of a new online survey intended to gather information about current projects that use off-site construction technologies, and practices and needs related to this work. The Off-Site Construction Industry Survey is aimed at individuals representing different building-related disciplines and includes questions about successes and failures witnessed in connection with off-site construction, comparisons to traditional construction methods, and areas of interest for stakeholders in this field.

AWI Now an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has approved ANSI member the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) as ANSI Accredited Standards Developer under its proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on AWI-sponsored American National Standards, effective August 12, 2014. ABC Applies to Become an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer
ANSI organizational member Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. (ABC) has applied to become an ANSI-accredited standards developer, and has submitted proposed operating procedures overseeing the documenting of consensus on proposed ABC-sponsored American National Standards. ABC's proposed scope is focused on the development of standards intended to assist building contractors and establish best practices in managing sustainability impact in connection with work carried out by construction contractors.
