The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced a call for participation in the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 268, Sustainable development in communities, as well as its Subcommittee (SC) 1, Smart urban infrastructure metrics. Both ISO TC 268 and SC 1 are actively developing international standards, and all U.S. stakeholder organizations in relevant fields and industries are strongly encouraged to get involved.
U.S. leadership in international standardization plays a crucial role in sustaining economic growth for the nation and competing in the global economy. Becoming involved in the international standards development process allows U.S. organizations to gain a competitive advantage by influencing the standards that help to shape international trade and industry, providing important support to the U.S. economy as a whole.
ISO TC 268 is responsible for the development of international standards on topics related to sustainable development in communities around the world. The TC's work covers management system requirements for sustainable development, as well as related guidance and techniques intended to support the increased resilience and sustainability of development in communities. ISO TC 268 SC 1 oversees the development of ISO standards on smart community infrastructure metrics, including general principles and requirements, and framework for development and operation of these important metrics.
As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI accredits U.S. TAGs to develop and transmit U.S. positions on ISO technical activities. ANSI member and audited designator the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) serves as the ANSI-accredited administrator of the U.S. TAG to ISO TC 268 and SC 1.
