ASSE Offers Hurricane Preparedness Tips
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is offering safety guidance for the 2010 hurricane season.

A number of documents on hurricane safety are now available on the ASSE site, including tips specific to businesses and communities, mold cleanup, workplace crises, and hazmat emergencies. They also offer an emergency preparedness quiz for stakeholders to test their knowledge on this critical topic.

ASME Launches Nano Educational Series
ASME, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched a new area of their website offering educational resources related to nanotechnology.

The ASME Nano Educational Series provides free video and audio podcasts that cover nanotechnology as it relates to energy, materials, life sciences, and the environment. Nanotechnology experts sound off on such current topics such as energy storage devices and energy storage laboratories.

ICC Connects Stakeholders through Communities of Interest Bulletin Board
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has expanded their website's bulletin board into a more robust environment where members can meet, interact, discuss, share resources, and plan and participate in community events and activities.

The Communities of Interest bulletin board features active discussions on a wide range of topics, including accessibility, code administration, fire, mechanical and fuel, and more. Archives of the previous bulletin board are also available.

NIBS Forms Haiti Tool Kit to Aid in Rebuilding Efforts
The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), an ANSI member, is forming a Haiti Tool Kit with the help of the U.S. standards and codes community to help provide guidance in the reconstruction of the devastated nation.

The kit includes a white paper entitled Building a Foundation for the Renewal of Haiti: Recommendations for a Long-Term Building Strategy, which has been has been shared with U.S. and Haitian government representatives, international donor organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Interested organizations are invited to endorse the paper and distribute it widely.

The Institute will deliver the toolkit to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton so that the Department of State could present it to Haiti for the reconstruction of its buildings and structures.

NRA Offers Free Food Safety Materials to Help with Employee Training
The National Restaurant Association (NRA), an ANSI member, is offering free staff training materials focused on food safety.

The tools are being offered in time for National Food Safety Education Month, held every September. Five weeks of activities and training posters are now available, emphasizing high-risk customers and identifying foods they should avoid. The materials also highlight internal cooking temperatures to help serve those customers safely, and five major food safety risk factors.

RVIA Celebrates Recreation Vehicle Industry's 100th Anniversary
The Recreation Vehicle Industry Assocation (RVIA), an ANSI member, is honoring the 100th anniversary of the RV industry with a year-long celebration and a number of new initiatives.

RVIA hosted a media tour with historic and modern RVs to show the industry's progress, and is offering free RV Centennial logos and historic photos. An RV Centennial message board is also available for organizations who wish to plan their own events commemorating the anniversary.
