Attention ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs: 2017 Procedural Compliance Forms and 2016 TAG Annual Reports Due by February 1, 2017

12/12/2016

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and its Procedures and Standards Administration (PSA) department wish to remind all ANSI-Accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) administrators to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that a response to the recently distributed e-mail that contained the 2017 Procedural Compliance Form/2016 TAG Annual Report Notice must be submitted no later than February 1, 2017, to the ANSI PSA department ([email protected]).

Individuals requiring additional time to respond should send an extension request to [email protected]; failure to submit by the deadline may jeopardize the TAG's accreditation status and their organization's status as the related ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG Administrator. TAGs that are not separately accredited are not required to submit their own TAG compliance form or annual report. A full list of ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO can be accessed at www.ansi.org/isotags.

"By seeking and maintaining ANSI-accredited status, an organization chooses to publicly commit to an open, equitable, and accessible consensus process that ensures due process and benefits the public interest," explained Lane Hallenbeck, ANSI vice president of accreditation services. "The 2017 ISO TAG Annual Compliance Form E-mail is combined with the 2016 TAG Annual Reporting format to facilitate the annual compliance notification process and the ISO TAG Annual Report submission."

2017 Procedural Compliance E-mail (Part 1)
Before submitting the 2017 ISO TAG Procedural Compliance E-mail (Part 1), please review the 2017 edition of the ANSI International Procedures (www.ansi.org/internationalprocedures) which includes one revision reflected in a number of sections. This revision is intended to ensure that sufficient time to identify a new TAG Administrator is available to ANSI when an organization serving in that role wishes to relinquish it (see sections 2.3.1.2; 2.3.3; 2.5.5.5 and A.3 of the ANSI International Procedures).

TAG Administrators to TAGs that are accredited to use Annex A (model TAG procedures) are not required to revise the TAG's procedures, but must rely on and operate in compliance with the new 2017 edition of the ANSI International Procedures and Annex A contained therein.

2016 TAG Annual Report Form (Part 2)
The TAG Annual Report Form is Part 2 of the Compliance E-mail that was issued to each TAG Administrator of an ANSI-Accredited US TAG to ISO.

The Annual Reporting requirements contained in the ANSI Procedures for U.S. Participation in the International Standards Activities of the ISO (ANSI International Procedures) are excerpted, in part, below:

1.6.1 - Annual Report
An annual report, in summary narrative form, to be submitted to ANSI not later than January 31 of the following year, shall be prepared by each secretariat documenting its activity during the past year. In satisfying this requirement any relevant reports sent to ISO may be incorporated or appended. It shall include, at a minimum, an expressed certification by the secretariat that it has been and continues to be operated in a manner that complies with all ISO directives and applicable ANSI procedures that have been communicated to it.

Please remember that all ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO must complete both parts of the Compliance E-mail by February 1, 2017. In the past, some TAG Administrators have provided one of the required forms instead of both, so please remember to complete Part 1 and Part 2 and submit both to [email protected]. Extension requests may be directed to [email protected].

Once submitted, an acknowledgement email will be sent to each submitter within two weeks; please keep a copy of the submittal and the related receipt for your records. Questions about the 2017 Compliance E-mail/2016 TAG Annual Report submission process may be sent to [email protected].

A brief webinar to review the Compliance E-mail and TAG Annual Report requirement will be announced in early January 2017.

ANSI and the ANSI Executive Standards Council (ExSC) thank all ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG Administrators to ISO activities for their efforts throughout the year to ensure that the U.S. has a strong and effective voice in the international standardization activities of ISO.
