People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
Tim McNeive, a longtime employee of Thomas & Betts and active member of the standards community, has retired. Mr. McNeive spent 42 years at Thomas & Betts, a member of the ABB Group, and served as the company's manager-technical liaison.
Mr. McNeive has had a strong presence in the standards community for 25 years, participating in many product sections and policy committees for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). He sat on several standards committees in Canada and the U.S. through the Council for Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standards in the Nations of the Americas (CANENA), and has served as CANENA's president and on its executive committee. In 2011, Mr. McNeive received NEMA's Kite & Key award, which recognizes members of the community who have advanced the electrical industry through participation in NEMA activities.
Bruce Schopp, manager of transportation systems at NEMA, has announced his retirement.
Mr. Schopp joined NEMA in 1996, supporting the organization's role in the National Transportation Communications for Intelligent Transportation Systems Protocol (NTCIP) standards project. In this position, he was the coordinator at NEMA, supporting the NTCIP Joint Committee, multiple working groups, and NTCIP standards. In the years following, his role at NEMA grew to include support for the NEMA Transportation Section and the Advanced Transportation Controller standards project.
ANSI member The American Bankers Association (ABA) has appointed Robin Cook as vice president and senior legislative counsel. Mr. Cook will be working on issues related to capital markets, agricultural banking, regulatory relief efforts, postal reform, and other areas.
Prior to joining ABA, Mr. Cook was the senior director of advocacy and counsel for special projects at the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). He oversaw legal advocacy efforts and worked with legislative issues such as patent reform, payments policy, data security, and regulatory relief.
Mr. Cook holds a juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, as well as a journalism degree from the University of Missouri.
ABA has also announced the appointment of Steve Apodaca as senior vice president of ABA's Center for Agricultural and Rural Banking. Mr. Apodaca will oversee all agricultural and rural banking for the association, manage the Agricultural and Rural Bankers Committees, and provide leadership to related product and program offerings.
Mr. Apodaca hasmore than 25 years of experience in the agricultural, commercial, and real estate lending arenas. He previously worked for Wells Fargo Bank in Las Cruces, N.M., as vice president and principal business manager. His agricultural banking work covered producers of onion, chili, cotton, pecan, alfalfa, and grain, as well as cattle ranchers.
"Steve's extensive background as a commercial banker with a focus on agricultural lending makes him an excellent addition to our Center for Ag and Rural Banking," said James Ballentine, ABA's executive vice president of congressional relations. "He will be able to provide essential insight to the challenges and opportunities for our members in rural America."
