People on the Move

5/30/2014
People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

On April 30, 2014, Neil Schuster retired from his position as president and CEO of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer. Mr. Schuster originally joined AAMVA in 2007. A search process to select the next president and CEO of AAMVA is expected to be overseen by the association's board of directors.

During his time at AAMVA, Mr. Schuster oversaw a national study of a potential Vehicle Miles Traveled fee system, and participated on committees seeking to reduce traffic deaths and improve highway safety, among other work. Before joining AAMVA, he served as the president and CEO of ANSI member the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) and as the executive director of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association. Mr. Schuster received his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the City University of New York and his MBA from the University of Colorado Boulder.

AAMVA is a nonprofit organization representing law enforcement officials and motor vehicle administrators. Founded in 1933, the organization works to bolster traffic safety in North America and develops programs related to the licensing of drivers, titling and registration, and other related topics.

ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Aluminum Association has hired Ryan Olsen as its new vice president of business information and statistics. In this position, Mr. Olsen will oversee the association's aluminum industry business information and statistics programs, among other duties.

Prior to joining the Aluminum Association, Mr. Olsen worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) as a senior data analyst and economist in the department's Maritime Administration. He received his bachelor of arts degree in economics from St. Mary's College of Maryland and his MBA from Maryland's Mount St. Mary's University.

The Aluminum Association represents U.S. and international aluminum producers, recyclers and aluminum products manufacturers, among others, and works to improve understanding of the recycling and sustainability benefits associated with the widespread use of the metal.
