Reminder: August 1 Deadline Approaches for ANSI's Inaugural Student Paper Competition

7/11/2012
Only three weeks remain until the August 1, 2012, entry deadline for the first American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Student Paper Competition. The contest, overseen by ANSI and its Committee on Education (CoE), is intended to raise awareness of the strategic importance of standards and conformance among students at the university level.

Students of all disciplines currently enrolled at the associate, undergraduate, or graduate level at any U.S. academic institute of higher learning are eligible to apply. Entrants are required to submit papers of no more than 2,000 words that explore the theme of the competition, How Standards Facilitate Innovation and Benefit Society, and must include concrete examples of how standards assist in the development of new innovations. All submissions must be formatted in accordance with the submission criteria in the paper competition flyer linked below.

All submissions will be screened by members of the ANSI CoE paper competition ad hoc committee to ensure that they meet the required criteria before being forwarded to ANSI for consideration. First, second, and third prize winners will receive awards of $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively; however, ANSI reserves the right to award no prizes in accordance with the determination of the judges.

The winning papers will be announced during World Standards Week 2012 at the annual ANSI Awards banquet and ceremony on October 10 and will be presented at an October 12 education event in Washington, D.C. First and second place winners residing outside Washington, D.C. who wish to attend the October 12 event are eligible for a small travel stipend.

To enter the competition, email entries by 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on August 1, 2012, to [email protected].
