People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Pamela Cowan as its vice president for regulatory affairs. Ms. Cowan will oversee the development and implementation of industry strategies and policies for regulatory and technical areas, nuclear plant licensing activities, reactor oversight, and new nuclear plant deployment.

Ms. Cowan joins NEI with extensive experience in the nuclear energy industry. She spent 12 years at Exelon Generation, where she managed licensing and regulatory affairs activities, implementation of online and outage work management functions, and decommissioning activities. Most recently, she served as Exelon's senior director of decommissioning; previously, she was senior manager for plant/system engineering.

"Pam brings an abundance of experience, technical expertise and leadership to NEI that will assist the industry in navigating complex regulatory challenges," said Marvin Fertel, president and chief executive officer at NEI. "She chaired NEI's Decommissioning Transition Task Force and served as vice chair of the Electric Power Research Institute's (EPRI) Used Fuel Technical Advisory Committee. Pam's proven leadership will strengthen the move toward a modern, more efficient regulatory process."

The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that Michael Ross is its new director of standards. In this role, Mr. Ross will work with ANSI, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) on electrical product standards development. He will also monitor regulatory issues for OPEI.

Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Ross was a regulatory engineer for handheld lawn and garden equipment for MTD Southwest, Inc. He has also served as the truck and traffic manager for concrete mixers and pumpers at Schwing, and as the senior business manager for mixers and refuse vehicles at McNeilus. At Cushman, he was a project engineer for electric and fueled utility vehicles, and at LMC he was the engineering manager for tracked vehicles.

"We couldn't be more pleased to evolve our standards and regulatory compliance activities with the addition of Michael Ross," said Kris Kiser, president and CEO of OPEI. "In addition to general standards work, Michael brings experience, capability and expertise in the area of electrical outdoor power equipment products, both nationally and internationally."
