Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

UL and Mother Nature Network Team Launch Safety and Healthy Living Website: SafeBee.com
UL, an ANSI member and audited designator, has joined forces with the Mother Nature Network (MNN), an environmental news and information media company, to develop a safety and healthy living website. SafeBee.com will provide science-based information about a variety of health, sustainability, and wellness topics from food safety and public health issues to home maintenance and travel.

"UL understands the safety challenges affecting consumers where they work, live, and play, and MNN understands content and how to create a strong online community," said Keith Williams, UL CEO. "This strong partnership will help us better reach consumers and create a dialogue about the safety issues that impact them each day."

World Plumbing Council Develops Database on Plumbing and Water-Related Research Programs
The World Plumbing Council, an organization that promotes the image and standards of the plumbing industry around the globe, has added a new research database to its website. The database provides information on a variety of plumbing- and water-related issues, with a focus on industry-related research programs. Users can also share their thoughts and recommendations for new research programs.

The website is designed as a "wiki," where visitors can view content and contribute without having to download a program or install any software. IAPMO senior vice president Pete DeMarco, one of several co-chairs for the development of this database, expressed enthusiasm about the benefits of this database for research in the plumbing industry: "As water-risk challenges become increasingly apparent globally, the database can play a role toward reducing redundancy in research efforts and creating a platform for researchers to collaborate and share ideas and data." IAPMO is an ANSI member and audited designator.
