NFPA Webinar to Address Proposed Changes to Standard on Electrical Safety in the Workplace
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced a free upcoming webinar to prepare stakeholders for the release of the 2018 edition of NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
The webinar is suited for electricians, electrical engineers, contractors, facility managers, property owners, building managers, safety engineers responsible for workplace electrical safety, and other stakeholders who are interested in the revised code. Attendees will learn about the most important changes to the code, and will have the opportunity to ask questions.
The webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 12, from 10:00 - 10:30 am EDT. Attendance is free, but registration is required and space is limited. See the NFPA blog post to learn more and to register for the webinar.
AAMI Publishes Tips on Cybersecurity Programs for Medical Devices
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has posted information and tips on developing a cybersecurity program for medical devices. These tips come from a presentation at the 33rd Annual Conference on Clinical Engineering Productivity and Cost Effectiveness, held in conjunction with the AAMI's 2017 conference.
Healthcare delivery organizations (HDOs) are encouraged to develop a medical device cybersecurity program. In order to develop such a program, HDOs should determine the number of connected devices, note manufacturers and models of these devices, and know how many of them use legacy software. They can then develop a system that assesses risks, vulnerabilities, and threats, and organize a committee with representatives of multiple departments to address the issue.

AHAM Offers Insight into the Future of Kitchen Design and Appliances
The Association of Home Appliances Manufacturers (AHAM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently interviewed kitchen designers to gain insight into the future of the kitchen. Trends and new technologies that they predicted include:
- Smarter - or more - dishwashers: Consumers who entertain frequently may begin to install more than one dishwasher to accommodate their needs. Meanwhile, dishwasher technology may advance to include "smart" appliances that choose the appropriate cycle based on each load of dishes.
- Accommodation for build-in portables: Kitchen designs are increasingly including open shelving with specific spaces for portable appliances. These portables are displayed for easy access and can be chosen in colors to coordinate with the rest of the kitchen.
- Coffee stations: More consumers are requesting built-in coffee stations as a permanent part of their kitchen's design.
