ISO Announces Workshop on Drip Irrigation

4/26/2016

Session to foster discussions for advancement of drip irrigation use worldwide

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recently announced an international workshop on drip irrigation, scheduled for August 31-September 2, 2016, in Stockholm, Sweden. The workshop, proposed by the Standards Institution of Israel (SII), in agreement with ISO's Technical Management Board (TMB), is intended to foster discussions for an international agreement that would serve as a means to advance the use of drip irrigation worldwide.

As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages all interested stakeholders, including representatives from government, industry, and non-governmental organizations involved in work related to drip irrigation, to attend the workshop. Participation is open to all experts from organizations involved with water, irrigation equipment control systems, filtering systems, and agriculture, and for those who have an interest in irrigation method application.

Drip irrigation systems, which save water and increase yields, also serve as delivery systems for fertilizers and other agrochemicals. Ultimately, the adoption of drip irrigation—which can be operated remotely—can help achieve sufficient fresh water for domestic uses while increasing farmers' income with yield increment and cost reduction.

The workshop will be held at the Swedish Standards Institute. In advance of the workshop, participants are encouraged to submit standards or other existing relevant documents for consideration. Documents will be provided to all pre‐registered participants for review and comment.
