SCTE Announces New Energy Consumption and Cost Reduction Initiative for the Cable Sector
The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently announced that its SCTE Energy Management Program will begin a new, multi-year initiative intended to assist cable system providers in their efforts to bring down energy costs and consumption, among other goals. The campaign, known as Energy 2020, will focus on the effective use of standards, best practices, and education by cable organizations to reduce their dependency on the electrical grid and optimize their technical facilities and datacenters.
Under the program, members of the SCTE Standards Program will collaborate directly with cable system operator teams, carrying out an eight-step program. Energy 2020 will focus on twelve primary initiatives involving five different categories: Facilities; Marketing/Regulatory; Plant; Technology; and Operations. The program, which draws on work carried out by SCTE's Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI), will also include the development and implementation of targeted training resources.

NFPA Releases 2014 National Electrical Code Mobile App
ANSI member and audited designator the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released the 2014 edition of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, as an app for mobile devices. This new app provides users with around-the-clock access to this important code, making it easier to browse through the document in all kinds of settings and situations, while also ensuring that users receive code development information and electrical safety news from NFPA in an effective, timely manner.
The app is available for iPhone and iPad from ANSI member Apple Inc.'s iTunes Store and for devices using Android 2.3.3 or higher from ANSI member Google Inc.'s Google Play store.
