As part of the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) University Outreach Program, overseen by ANSI's Committee on Education (CoE), a new standardization case study has recently been added to the StandardsLearn.org website. Entitled "INCITS Technical Committee T10 Provides Multi-Vendor Storage Device Interoperability," the case study uses an examination of the establishment of the Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) standard storage interface to illustrate how standards can lead to increases in revenues and profits, while also speeding up innovation and the introduction of new products and services.
The CoE's case studies initiative promotes education on standards and conformity assessment-related topics, as well as college and university training activities within the global standardization community. The case studies and their associated supplemental materials are available at no charge on StandardsLearn.org.
Individual case studies highlight a particular subject area or topic involving a standardization concept or practice that is linked to an industry, organization, or relevant issue. The case studies are intended to engage students in a discussion of standardization concepts and practices, allowing them to explore the advantages and disadvantages of different courses of action, as well as the associated economic and operational consequences.
New recommendations of possible case studies are welcome and should be submitted via a project worksheet, which serves as a template for the final version of a completed case study.
