AIIM Research Shows Increasing Need for Mobile Enterprise Content Management
A survey conducted by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, indicates a growing need for mobile and cloud technologies for business information access and sharing.
The survey showed that while enterprise content management (ECM) for cloud-based technologies is spreading, with 75 percent of respondents using cloud technology or planning to use it within the next four years, there is a lack of mobile access to content for many businesses. More than three quarters of executives surveyed feel they need to embrace mobile technologies, but 40 percent have no mobile access to business information at all. Only ten percent have a well-run BYOD program.
"[Mobile] has changed forever the way people work and collaborate," said Doug Miles, AIIM's chief analyst. "The good news is that many organizations have acknowledged this and mobile has emerged as the biggest area for future ECM investment in our research."

WQA Publishes Study on Evolving Consumer Perceptions of Water Quality
The Water Quality Association (WQA), an ANSI member, has released the results of a national study on the public's attitudes toward water quality and treatment.
The 2015 Study of Consumers' Opinions and Perceptions Regarding Water Quality reveals that consumers are slightly less confident about the water quality in their home than they were two years ago, with 56 percent saying that they are "concerned" or "very concerned." Further, 77 percent of respondents self-identify as regular users of bottled water, up from 72 percent in 2013 and 65 percent in 2011. More than half expressed an interest in an in-home water treatment system that would remove biological waste, arsenic, lead, and other contaminants, and would pay more for that assurance.

NFPA, Research Foundation, and NIOSH Continue Alliance with MOU
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the NFPA's Fire Protection Research Foundation, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue an alliance that has existed between the organizations for ten years.
The MOU supports the continuing collaboration of the organizations on many different projects, including initiatives for fire fighter health and safety. NFPA president Jim Pauley, Research Foundation executive director Casey Grant, and NIOSH director John Howard signed the MOU.
NIOSH is an ANSI member through its National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory, and NFPA is an ANSI member and audited designator. To learn more, see the NFPA news item.
CSA Offers Tips for Dorm Room Safety
CSA Group, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of safety tips for college students living in dorms and apartments. College students are often living on their own for the first time, and must be aware of safe practices to avoid fires and other hazards. Some of the CSA's tips include:
Ensure that rooms have a working carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detector.
Don't overload circuits by plugging too many appliances into one cord. If a cord or plug gets hot, it may be overloaded.
Do not leave small appliances like hot plates and coffee makers unattended while in use, and keep them away from flammable materials.
