ANSI Offers Education and Training Week in December

New York, Nov 02, 2005

In order to serve the education and training needs of the standards and conformity assessment community, beginning December 5 the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is offering some of the Institute’s most popular courses from the core training curriculum – sessions that are a mainstay to those working or volunteering in standardization. The week of education courses is designed to provide efficient and effective training solutions for everyone interested in participating in the standards and conformity assessment process.

Participants may choose a single one-day course or opt for a combination of courses during the week. Discounts apply for ANSI members and for anyone registering for two or more courses. All of the courses will run from 9 AM to 5 PM and will be held in ANSI’s New York offices.

  • For those who require in-depth training, our course on Monday, December 5, will provide a practical “how to” on the development of American National Standards (ANS). Students of course #287, The American Way: the American National Standard (ANS) Development Process, will gain greater understanding and guidance on the practical application of the ANS development process and procedures, and the value of ANSI accreditation. This course may serve as a "nuts and bolts" preparation for those who are learning about becoming an ANSI-accredited standards developer.

  • The following day, students will get the skills that are vital to a standardization leadership team. On Tuesday, December 6, ANSI course #211, Leadership Training: Managing Standards Activities Effectively, will deliver techniques for facilitating the group decision-making process to produce timely standards. Tips will be shared on how to prepare for and conduct efficient and productive meetings and how to maintain progress by understanding procedural options, including effective delegation of responsibilities.

The next two courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of those participating as a member, administrator or chair of an international standards committee or U.S. Technical Advisory Group.

  • Students enrolled in course #208, The Operating Procedures of U.S. TAGs to ISO: Strengthening the U.S. Voice in International Standardization, on Wednesday, December 7, will explore the processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory groups to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Crucial information about accreditation, membership, voting requirements and rules for developing positions will be presented, as well as tips on how to be an effective international delegate at ISO committee meetings.

  • Thursday, December 8, ends the week with course #205, ISO Secretariat Operations: Taking the Secret out of the Secretariat, providing insight and advice on every aspect of successful ISO committee management. Participants will increase their understanding of the international standards development process and alternative deliverables, and learn effective management techniques.
An additional benefit of attending a class at ANSI is the opportunity to meet and interface with the staff members who support your program activities.
