People on the Move

New York, Oct 26, 2007

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

In a diversion from the customary People on the Move subject matter, the American National Standards Institute would like to pay tribute to those members of the ANSI community who have been affected by the Southern California fire storm. Now in their sixth day, the fires have destroyed 1,800 homes and burned nearly 500,000 acres.

Happily, Oliver Smoot, former president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and former chairman of the ANSI Board of Directors, and his wife Sandy are both safe. Though they were evacuated, the fire has bypassed their home, damaging only some bushes and trees.

Kathleen Thuner, current ANSI board member and immediate past president of the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators, also reported that she and her family were evacuated. They are all safe, and their home did not sustain any damage.
