May ANSI Caucus to Feature Royal Thai Embassy Official

On Friday, May 5, 2006, the ANSI Caucus will feature Songsak Saicheua, Minister Counselor of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, DC. Mr. Saicheua will discuss U.S.-Thai trade, giving particular emphasis to the role of standards and conformity assessment in facilitating trade between the two nations.

In his role at the Royal Thai Embassy, Mr. Saicheua played an active role in forwarding US-Thai dialogue for a Free Trade Agreement and participated in the Technical Barriers to Trade discussions. He was also instrumental in organizing the recent Trade Capacity Building Seminar on U.S. Standards, Technical Regulations, and Conformity Assessment held in Bangkok in March. Previous to his current position, Mr. Saicheua worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various capacities, including roles in the Departments of Economic Affairs and ASEAN Affairs, as well as in the Policy and Planning Division.

A guest lecturer at numerous universities and institutions, Mr. Saicheua served as secretary of the Senate Special Committee on Economic Affairs, and advisor to the ASEAN Free Trade Committee of the Federation of Thai Industries. He was also a member of the Working Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Economic and Industrial Affairs.
