Did You Know?

5/10/2019

Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

ICC Launches Building Safety Month Campaign
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is offering free promotional and educational materials to mark Building Safety Month, celebrated each year in May.

This international campaign highlights the importance of modern, regularly updated building codes, helping stakeholders to understand what is needed for safe and sustainable structures. Materials for the week include brochures, safety tip sheets, a kids' corner with activities and lesson plans, and a toolkit to assist in bringing awareness to the community.

Learn more and access the free materials for Building Safety Month on ICC's website.

TCIA Webinar to Highlight Ad Strategies for Tree Care Businesses
The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, will host a free webinar on proper ad strategies that can bring business owners calls from new customers, more referrals, and better conversion of word-of-mouth referrals.

The webinar, delivered by TCIA's affinity partner Market Hardware, outlines three top advertising strategies for 2019 that can outshine competitors with outdated strategies. The presentation will lay the techniques out clearly so that even non-tech savvy business owners will be equipped to use them.

The presentation will take place on Tuesday, May 14 from 3:00-4:00pm EDT. See TCIA's website to learn more and register.

TCNA's Tiled Doghouse Program Donates Pet Homes to Benefit Animal Organization
The Tile Council of North America (TCNA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently held a show where its members created tiled doghouses that demonstrate the versatility and style of the material. The doghouses were then donated to the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, which will auction them to raise money for their pet shelters.

Among the 20 tiled doghouses were a Paris bistro themed creation, a terrazzo-look doghouse with waterjet-cut dog figures inspired by the works of MC Escher, a multi-textured piece with an ocean coral theme, and a smaller version of a 1920's colonial style cottage.

See pictures of all of the tiled doghouses on TCIA's website.

Vision Council Offers UV Eye Protection Tips for Summer Sun
The Vision Council, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, offers information, tips, and statistics from a recent survey on protecting eyes from damaging ultraviolet radiation this summer.

The survey indicated that Americans' top concern about UV eye exposure is vision loss, yet 27 percent don't typically wear sunglasses while outside. What's more, many experience symptoms from prolonged UV exposure, like irritation in the eye (15.5 percent), trouble seeing (13.5 percent), and red or swollen eyes (5.9 percent). The Council suggests that everyone seek out sunglasses with a label indicating UV protection, and wear them whenever they're outdoors in daylight hours.

Learn more about the different types of UV rays and how to best protect your eyes on The Vision Council's website.
