The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA), an organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), announced the appointment of John DiLoreto as the new director of its Nanotechnology SME Coalition.

As director, Mr. DiLoreto will lead the Coalition’s efforts to advance the public perception of nanotechnology; advocate the needs and interests of start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises; fine-tune the standards development process; and secure fair treatment in trade.

With years of experience in the development, use and manufacture of nanoscale materials, Mr. DiLoreto founded NanoReg, a consulting firm specialized in environmental, health and safety issues involving nanotechnology. He previously started and directed the American Chemistry Council’s Nanotechnology Panel.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has named Mary A. Irace as managing director of global affairs.

Ms. Irace will represent the Council’s international interests with other industry associations, coalitions, and advocacy groups both nationally and worldwide. Irace will also manage ACC’s participation in the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA).

Ms. Irace recently served as vice president of trade and export finance for the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC), leading the Council’s programs on international trade and export finance. Prior to her position with NFTC, Ms. Irace was chief trade advisor to Senator William V. Roth. She currently serves as a cleared private sector government adviser on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property (ITAC-15).

She holds a bachelor of arts in international affairs from The George Washington University, and a master of arts in international relations from The Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.
