ISO Recruiting for Director of Development and Training Programs

Mr. Alan Bryden, Secretary General of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has announced a call for applications for the position of Director, ISO Development and Training Programs.

In a letter sent to the ISO member bodies and correspondent members, Bryden announced that Dr. Anwar El-Tawil, Secretary of the ISO Developing Countries Committee (ISO/DEVCO), will retire at the end of April 2004. Bryden has decided to expand the responsibilities of the ISO/DEVCO Secretary to include management of ISO’s involvement in the development, implementation and promotion of educational and training material and services.

According to the job description, the new position of Director, ISO Development and Training Programs (DEVT) will report to the Secretary-General. Key responsibilities will include management of the service within the ISO Central Secretariat that develops and monitors the implementation of the ISO Action Plan for Developing Countries and provides training services to its members. This involves providing the Secretariat of DEVCO, coordinating the activities of the ISO Regional Liaison Officers, and structuring and organizing the elaboration and delivery of education and training services and material.

The ISO/DEVT service will be in charge of the operational contacts with donors and beneficiaries of training services, and the negotiation and administration of corresponding contracts. The Director is therefore also responsible for the preparation and implementation of the corresponding budget.
