ANSI Announces New Format for ANSI Manufacturer Member Roundtable in China

3/17/2011
Members of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) interested in getting involved in activities at the forefront of standards and conformance initiatives in China are invited to participate in the ANSI Manufacturer Member Roundtable in China.

The ANSI Manufacturer Member Roundtable in China was launched in 2009 to provide ANSI's full company members a forum to discuss challenges and strategies, exchange information across industry sectors, and provide perspectives on issues affecting manufacturing companies doing business in China.

In an effort to broaden the involvement of ANSI members and further increase the value of the China program, ANSI is announcing a new format for the Roundtable in China, including the following activities:

3-4 workshops per year on key topics of interest
In lieu of the monthly meeting format, the Roundtable plans to convene for three to four workshops per year in China on key topics of interest. These workshops will be held primarily in Mandarin Chinese, and will be open to all full ANSI members. The first of these workshops, held on February 23, 2011, focused on proposed revisions to China's Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) policy. [see related news item] Potential topics for upcoming Roundtable meetings may highlight China's smart grid initiative and Chinese energy efficiency standards and regulatory programs.

As needed, Roundtable members will meet in Beijing or Shanghai for ad hoc meetings throughout the year to discuss additional topics of interest.

Increased opportunities for participation in Chinese government meetings
The Chinese government is increasingly holding stakeholder meetings to collect input on or provide updates about regulatory developments and initiatives of interest to China Roundtable members. Under the umbrella of the China Roundtable, ANSI will help Roundtable members gain access to these meetings so that they may participate in front-line discussions affecting trade with China.

One such meeting, led by the China National Institute for Standardization (CNIS), discussed Chinese energy conservation and emission reduction initiatives. A summary report prepared by the Roundtable is available to ANSI members (see instructions below).

Year-end networking events with Chinese government leaders
Based on the success of last year's event, the ANSI Roundtable in China will host an annual year-end holiday event in China to offer Roundtable members and supporters additional networking opportunities with Chinese government leaders.

The ANSI Manufacturer Member Roundtable in China will continue to provide English language reports of Roundtable activities for the benefit of the broader ANSI community. To read recent reports and find out more about who participates in the Roundtable, view the China Roundtable Wiki.
