USNC Council Initiates Plans for Future IEC General Meeting in the U.S.

New York, Sep 13, 2004

The governing council of the U.S. National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (USNC/IEC) has initiated a planning program for the United States to host a future IEC General Meeting. The U.S. last hosted the General Meeting in 1998 in Houston, Texas.

The IEC holds General Meetings each year, hosted by a country that is one of its 51 National Committee Voting Members. Participation in the IEC General Meeting is open to all delegates appointed by IEC National Committees and to representatives of invited international organizations.

To be considered a host candidate, a National Committee must submit a proposal to the IEC no more than three years prior to the meeting. While plans for a U.S. 2010 meeting are still in an exploratory phase, the USNC would like to contract with a planning agency or individual who can assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of the U.S. IEC General Meeting.

Those interested in receiving more information regarding the USNC Planning Committee and potential event-planning partnerships (a request for proposals is now available), please contact the USNC general secretary Charles Zegers (czegers@ansi.org; 212.642.4965)
