ANSI Joint Member Forums to Be Held at Close of Annual Conference

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Joint Member Forums Meeting will take place the morning of Thursday, October 17, 2002, following the October 15-16 ANSI Annual Conference "Breaking Down Borders-Business, Standards and Trade" and related World Standards Week events in Washington, DC. Later that afternoon, the Member Forums will convene for their individual Forum meetings.

The joint meeting of the ANSI Member Forums will be focused on agenda topics of common interest to all. Scheduled agenda presentations include: Standards: Addressing Customer Needs for Efficiency; International Standards for Corporate Ethics Management; Bringing "Unheard" Voices into the Standards Process; an International Activity Report; a Government Relations / Public Policy Update; a Conformity Assessment update; and the National Standards Strategy: One Year Later.

Presiding will be Alec McMillan, Director Global Standards and Trade, Rockwell Automation, Company Member Forum Executive Committee (CMFEC) Chair; Dan Bart, SVP Standards & Special Projects, Telecommunications Industry Association, Organizational Member Forum (OMF) Chair; and Greg Saunders, Director Defense Standardization Program Office, U.S. Dept. of Defense, for Government Member Forum (GMF) Chair, Dick Weinstein.

The ANSI Company Member Forum (CMF) represents the interests of U.S. industry in the policy setting activities of the Institute. The CMF considers global standardization and conformity assessment related issues, provides policy recommendations to the Board of Directors and its committees, and recommends candidates for Board membership. It consists of one representative from each company member of ANSI.

The ANSI Organizational Member Forum (OMF) represents the interests of US professional societies, trade associations, standards developers and academia in the policy setting activities of the Institute with respect to standards, certification and conformity assessment.

The ANSI Government Member Forum (GMF) provides a forum for the discussion of government standards and conformity assessment issues as they relate to ANSI and its members. Representatives of virtually every federal department participate in the ANSI GMF.

The Member Forums will re-convene separately (2:00 pm - 4:00 pm) to conclude their business. A complete schedule of events, including program and registration information, is available on ANSI Online.
