10/10/2014

Provides Important Information on the Organization's Programs, Services, and Goals

Workcred, a new affiliate of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has launched its official website, making a wide array of information about this exciting new initiative publicly available for the first time.

Workcred is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing awareness of competency-based, industry-recognized workforce credentials and supporting efforts to improve the quality, transparency, portability, and market value of these important tools. It was officially established in May 2014 by ANSI's Board of Directors [see related story] and its certificate of incorporation was approved by the Delaware Secretary of State on July 15, 2014.

Workcred is led by Roy Swift, Ph.D., the organization's executive director. Dr. Swift, retired U.S. Army colonel, previously served as ANSI's chief workforce development officer and senior director of personnel credentialing accreditation programs, executive director of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), and chief of the Army Medical Specialist Corps in the Army Surgeon General's Office, among other positions.

As part of its efforts to support the creation of a competency-driven credentialing ecosystem, Workcred plans to:

  • Carry out research projects on topics related to workforce credentialing, including the market value, predictive value, and industry alignment of these credentials
  • Provide consultative and evaluative services for government agencies, corporations, professional and trade organizations, and educational institutions
  • Convene stakeholder fora focusing on industry problems related to workforce credentials
  • Implement significant education and outreach initiatives related to workforce credentials and their use

The new website provides users with relevant news and information on reports and research outcomes related to workforce credentials, among other notable content.
