Webinar: U.S. TAG Participants Sought for Potential New ISO Field of Activity on Exhibitions, Events, and Conventions

9/12/2016

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will host a WebEx meeting on Monday, September 19, 2016, at 1:00p.m. ET, for relevant U.S. stakeholders to discuss the possible formation of a U.S. Technical Advisory Group to support U.S. national consensus-based participation in a new proposed field of activity on exhibitions, events, and conventions, should the proposal be approved. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites all relevant and interested stakeholders to participate.

As ANSI recently reported, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has circulated a proposal for a new field of activity on exhibitions, events, and conventions. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all relevant and interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by the end of the business day on Friday, October 7, 2016.

The proposal, submitted by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), includes a new technical committee responsible for the standardization of exhibitions (trade shows, trade fairs), events, and conventions (conferences, congresses, meetings, forums, seminars), including terminology, classification, statistics, information system, safety control, service and personnel requirements, and sustainability management.

The formulations and revision of international standards in the fields of exhibitions, events, and conventions would be launched covering four aspects: basic standards, including terminology, classification, and common symbols; data and information standards, including data statistics and auditing, information acquisition, and exchange; on-site service standards, including process, requirements of quality, and surveillance; and supporting services, including logistic, catering, stand-fitting, etc.

All interested stakeholders are invited to review the proposal, which includes listings of relevant standards as well as affected stakeholder categories that may benefit from or be impacted by the proposed standards.

Please submit comments to Steve Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy ([email protected]), by close of business on Friday, October 2, 2016. Based on the input received, the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) will then be asked to approve an ANSI position and comments to be submitted to ISO before its November 16, 2016, deadline for voting on this proposal.

ANSI has published an explanatory information document outlining the process used to develop U.S. positions on issues and activities under consideration by ISO and IEC.
