DOT Releases Online Code of Federal Regulations Mobile App
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has developed a mobile application for the online Code of Federal Regulations (oCFR). The app is a simplified version of a web-based tool released in March 2016.
Users of the app can search, view, and navigate the DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)'s Hazardous Materials Regulations in 49 CFR parts 100-180. These specify the classifying, handling, and packaging of hazardous materials by highway, rail, aircraft, and vessel. The application also offers mobile access to PHMSA's Pipeline Safety regulations in 49 CFR parts 190-199, providing the federal minimum safety standards for the design, construction, operation and maintenance, and spill response planning for pipeline and liquefied natural gas facilities involved in the transportation of natural gas and hazardous liquids within the United States.
Stakeholders can use the application on iOS and Android mobile devices. It is available for free download through Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store.

The International Association of Movers (IAM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has posted a recorded webinar on the cyber risks and coverage options for stakeholders in the transportation and relocation industry.

ITA Report Highlights Strong Economic Impact of Forklifts
The Industrial Truck Association (ITA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has released a report in cooperation with Oxford Economics that explores the forklift manufacturing sector, revealing its strong economic impact and employment rates.
"Lifting America: The Economic Impact of Forklift Manufacturers, Dealers, and Distributors" provides significant statistics and information about the industry. Its economic contribution to the U.S. gross domestic product in 2015 was $25.7 billion, and it supports 209,000 U.S. jobs. The industrial truck manufacturing industry has a greater share of veterans in its workforce than any other manufacturing or other industry.
"Forklifts have been lifting America's economy for over a century and we can now quantify our industry's economic contributions to the overall U.S. economy," said Brett Wood, president and CEO of Toyota Material Handling North America and chairman of ITA.

MHI Posts Video on Use of Industry Drones for Inventory Management
MHI, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a video that explores aero-robotics and cycle counts.
The video, which is the newest in MHI's ongoing video program, discusses the technological challenges and solutions in using indoor drones for inventory management. Listeners will learn about issues related to navigation, power supply, and safety for indoor drones in a business environment. Stakeholders can also access a previous episode that details how drones can be used indoors to track inventory through cycle counting.
