October Caucus to Address U.S. Electrotechnology Activities in International Standardization

On Friday, October 6, 2006, the ANSI Caucus will feature Alexander McMillan, director of global standards and trade at Rockwell Automation, and vice president, finance, of the United States National Committee to the International Electrotechnical Commission (USNC/IEC). Mr. McMillan will discuss present and future prospects of the U.S. electrotechnology industry, highlighting how changing dynamics in international standardization may open new opportunities for U.S. activities.

In his current role at Rockwell Automation, Mr. McMillan is responsible for leading the organization’s standards and trade programs. An active contributor to the ongoing development of standards and conformity assessment within the U.S. standards system, Mr. McMillan has represented the United States in delegations to the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC), the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), and the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue (TABD). He has published several technical papers at industry conferences and plays an active role in promoting standards education through his affiliation with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the MATI consortium.

Mr. McMillan has held a number of leadership roles in the standards community, currently serving as the U.S. chair for Industry Cooperation for Standards and Conformity Assessment (ICSCA). Among his various professional affiliations, Mr. McMillan is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA), and the ANSI Board of Directors.
