ANSI Seeks Input from U.S. Stakeholders on ISO Strategy 2030

7/11/2019

Submit Survey Feedback by August 9

To assess how it can best support national strategies for its members, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is seeking feedback from national member bodies on its ISO Strategy 2030 draft, developed by the ISO Council. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages U.S. stakeholders to review the draft and respond to an ANSI online survey by close of business on Friday, August 9, 2019. The input received will inform ANSI's response to ISO, via the ANSI ISO Council.

Draft of ISO Strategy 2030 is intended to address the needs of ISO members and their stakeholders, and to raise the profile of ISO and its members. The draft underscores the proposed ISO vision and mission statements, which explain ISO's overall goal and the challenges the ISO Strategy 2030 intends to address.

The draft incorporates six priority actions, which ISO members will implement in their role as national standards bodies, under the supervision of ISO governing bodies and with the support and coordinating role of the ISO Central Secretariat (ISO/CS):

  • Demonstrate the benefits of ISO standards
  • Accelerate time-to-market of ISO standards
  • Identify future opportunities for International Standardization
  • Strengthen ISO members through capacity building
  • Advance diversity in the ISO system
  • Innovate to exceed users' needs

Submit Input

The draft ISO Strategy 2030 highlights and seeks input on four principal drivers of change faced by ISO and its stakeholders:

  • Economy: trade and uncertainty
  • Technology: the impact of digital
  • Society: changing expectations and behavior
  • Environment: the urgency for sustainability

All ISO member input will be utilized to prepare for discussions in breakout sessions at the September 2019 ISO General Assembly meetings in Cape Town, South Africa, where further exchange will take place to promote a common understanding of the contents and purpose of ISO Strategy 2030. Following the ISO General Assembly, ISO will continue to work on the text with the goal of seeking approval for the new ISO Strategy 2030 at the ISO General Assembly in September 2020.
