In Light of Election, House Science Committee Chief Counsel to Address Standards Policy at December Caucus

New York, Nov 14, 2006

In view of the 2006 general election and the resulting shift in Congress, the December ANSI Caucus will feature Mr. James Turner, Chief Democratic Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Science. Mr. Turner will address the future of standards policy within the context of the new Congress. The event will be held on Friday, December 8, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

Mr. Turner has served on the Science Committee for more than 25 years. As a member of the Committee’s new majority staff, Mr. Turner is well positioned to influence standards-related issues to Congress and to communicate the voice of the standards community. As Chief Democratic Counsel, he works across the board on the Committee’s legislative agenda, which has jurisdiction over all non-defense federal scientific research and development.

Mr. Turner has worked on numerous bills, reports and hearings relating to standards, trade and technology policy, intellectual property, environmental and energy research and development, and the international competitiveness of U.S. industry. He was also a key author and advocate of the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act (NTTAA).

Sponsored by CSA America, the December Caucus will begin at 12:00 noon with general networking; lunch will be served promptly at 12:30 pm. The National Press Club is located at 529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor (Murrow Room).
