People on the Move

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

Peter Hoekstra has joined the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) as vice president, technical services. In this role, Hoekstra is responsible for leading the development of the association’s voluntary performance rating standards for appliances, administering AHAM’s product rating verification programs, providing technical support for extensive regulatory advocacy issues, overseeing cooperative research, and participating in the standards processes of other standards bodies worldwide.

Mr. Hoekstra brings to AHAM more than twenty years of engineering and project management experience. Immediately prior to joining AHAM, hewas senior director with Health-Mor Industries, a manufacturer of floor care appliances. Hoekstra has also held various technical positions with Zenith Fuel Systems, Electrolux, and Tappan Appliance. Mr. Hoekstra can be reached at 202.872.5955 ext. 317 or phoekstra@aham.org.

Amy Michel has joined the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as program administrator of international policy, regional and bilateral programs. Her primary responsibility will be supporting the maintenance and expansion of the U.S.-China standards portal (www.StandardsPortal.org).

Amy comes to ANSI from the German Marshall Fund where she was responsible for researching urban policies in American and European cities. While living in France for three years, she worked with the French National Family Benefits Fund (Caisse Nationale des Allocations Familiales) focusing on international outreach efforts. Amy has published policy papers in both French and English and has professional experience working in the IT and industrial sectors.
