The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is pleased to announce the appointment of James L. Cigler as director of product certification and verification. He will oversee the organization's ongoing and new appliance rating certification and verification programs.

Mr. Cigler previously served as manager of conformity assessment programs for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Prior to that he served as chief of the national Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and held several engineering support and management positions at the Department of the Navy. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University and an M.S. in technical management from The Johns Hopkins University.

AHAM is a non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of major, portable, and floor-care home appliances, and suppliers to the industry. The organization currently administers performance certification and verification programs for room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and room air cleaners, and is developing programs for refrigerators and freezers and portable air conditioners.


ANSI organizational member the Personal Care Products Council has announced that Thomas F. Myers will join the organization as associate general counsel. He will provide legal expertise in national and key state regulatory areas for the trade association representing the global cosmetic and personal care products industry.

Mr. Myers moves to the Personal Care Products Council from the Environment, Technology & Regulatory Affairs Division at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. There he has served as counsel and as executive of the Regulatory Affairs Committee, a group made up of industry representatives that creates all regulatory policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Previously, he served as environmental counsel to IE Discovery, Inc., where he oversaw a team of attorneys and legal analysts for clients that included the United States Navy and the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Myers received his B.A. in communications from Marquette University and his J.D. from the University of Detroit Law School.
