Reminder: ANSI President and CEO S. Joe Bhatia to Keynote 64th Annual SES Conference

7/28/2015

S. Joe Bhatia, president and CEO of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is scheduled as the keynote speaker at the 64th Annual SES Conference August 10-13, 2015, in Baltimore. Mr. Bhatia will highlight how ANSI and the global standards community are collaborating on cross-cutting issues, including intellectual property rights, incorporation by reference, and preparing the next generation of standards professionals, as part of the conference theme "Partnering Innovation through Standards and Conformity Assessment."

Mr. Bhatia will also provide insights on how the partnership between standardization and innovation is impacting evolving sectors, including energy, ICT and systems integration, and workforce development.

"ANSI is a strong partner of SES, with both our organizations serving similar constituency in supporting and strengthening standardization and conformity assessment," said SES president Sonya Bird. "Mr. Bhatia's keynote, in conjunction with the remaining conference program speakers, will continue to carry out one of our Society's key objectives - educating our membership in all aspects relative to the standards profession," she said.

Attendees will also hear from expert speakers from government agencies, standard developing organizations (SDOs), and private industry during various panel sessions on "Matching Expectations with Standards," "The Interplay Between Patents and Standards," and "Redefining the Standards Profession for the 21st Century," among other topics.

ANSI's Committee on Education (CoE) Secretariat Lisa Rajchel will moderate a session on "The Practical Application of Standards in the Classroom," which will highlight how innovative educators can effectively teach standards to prepare students for the workforce and how SDOs can take part in the process.

The event will be held at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and is recommended for managers of company standardization programs, standards distributors, government agencies using management and standardization techniques, or anyone who uses standards or designs standardization programs.

Two professional development courses will be offered on Monday, August 10 (Fundamentals of Standards and Conformity Assessment: Basic Knowledge and Tools for Today's Professional), and Thursday, August 13 (Setting Standards, A real-world simulation exercise in negotiations, collaboration and group dynamics), in conjunction with the conference.
