ANSI Seeks Comments on CEN Proposal for a Global Health TAG

New York, Dec 21, 2007

A new proposal from the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) seeks to establish a global Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to coordinate standardization efforts in the healthcare sector.

Based on the experiences of CEN’s Advisory Board for Health Standards (ABHS), the new Global Health TAG (GHTAG) seeks to integrate international work efforts, including at minimum:

The GHTAG proposal explores a possible title for the activity, terms of reference, goals, constitution, and mode of operation. CEN will present the proposal for consideration at the ISO Technical Management Board meeting on February 13-14, 2008, and may also submit it at the February IEC Standardization Management Board meeting.

As the official U.S. member of ISO, and, through the U.S. National Committee (USNC), of the IEC, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is seeking comments on the CEN proposal from all affected U.S. stakeholders.

All input will be used to develop a recommended position with possible comments that will be presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) and the USNC/IEC Technical Management Committee (TMC) for approval.

Interested parties are invited to review the proposal and submit comments to Steven Cornish, ANSI director of international policy (, by Monday, January 7, 2008.
