Smart Grid Panel Approves Six Standards for Catalog
The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a public-private partnership aimed at speeding the development of interoperability and cybersecurity standards to support a nationwide smart electric power grid, has approved six standards as the first entries for its new catalog of standards.

The six entries relate to high-priority national standards needed to create a modern, energy-efficient power grid with seamlessly interoperable components. The standards chosen address:

  • internet protocol standards;
  • energy use information standards;
  • use cases for communication between plug-in vehicles and the grid;
  • requirements for updating smart meters; and
  • guidelines for assessing standards for wireless communication devices.

SGIP is led by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). To learn more, see the NIST news release.
