ASSE Changes Name to American Society of Safety Professionals
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that it will change its name to the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) following a vote by its membership, with 74 percent of voting members in favor of the change.

The new name will take effect in June 2018, during the organization's Safety 2018 Professional Development Conference and Exposition in San Antonio. ASSE will also unveil a redesigned website in coordination with the name change.

"Our members have clearly voiced that the American Society of Safety Professionals better reflects our diverse membership," said ASSE president Jim Smith. "Engineers made up our entire membership when we were formed, but today the occupational safety and health profession encompasses many disciplines."

DRI White Papers Connects Disaster Risk Reduction and Business Continuity Management
DRI International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a white paper that provides a roadmap between the disaster risk reduction and business continuity management communities.

"Mapping the Professional Practices for Business Continuity Management from DRI International to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction" guides organizations in integrating common approaches in the two areas. The roadmap is based on DRI's business continuity management standard and the Sendai Framework, an international document adopted by United Nations member states that sets priority actions to reduce the risk of disasters.

"DRI International believes that adoption of the Professional Practices for Business Continuity Management can make a major contribution to the effective delivery of the Sendai goals," said DRI chief knowledge officer and Future Vision Committee chair Lyndon Bird, co-writer of the document.
