ANSI Expresses Sympathy for Tsunami Victims

Assistance with relief efforts underway

New York, Jan 03, 2005

Like so many others around the world, the members and staff of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) are following the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami that has hit many parts of Asia and east Africa. We express our concern for all those who have been impacted by these horrific events and keep our colleagues around the world in our thoughts during this terrible time.

ANSI's counterparts in some of the countries hit hardest include:

Indonesia (BSN - the Badan Standardisasi Nasional)
Thailand (TISI - the Thai Industrial Standards Institute)
Sri Lanka (SLSI - the Sri Lanka Standards Institute)
India (BIS - the Bureau of Indian Standards)
Malaysia (DSM - the Department of Standards Malaysia, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation)

We hope that our colleagues will find some comfort in the expressions of compassion received from friends around the world. We also look forward to working in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration that is characteristic of global standardization as we strive to develop solutions that will improve our early warning systems, and strengthen the safety and security of the people of all nations.

The most effective way to assist relief efforts is through the donation of cash contributions to humanitarian organizations. For those who wish to contribute, please find listed below a few of the sites that have already been established to provide information and handle donations for victims throughout the region.

The above list of resources is provided for information only. No endorsement is implied by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or any of its members.
