People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

Karen Boehme recently announced that she will be leaving her position as the international standards development manager for the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) after more than 28 years at the association. Ms. Boehme will be succeeded by NFPA's Denise Rockhill.

Since joining NFPA in 1985, Ms. Boehme has been an active force in international standardization, playing a significant role in years of important international standards work in the area of fluid power. She currently serves as the secretary of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 131, Fluid power systems, as well as secretary to two of its subcommittees (SCs) - SC 4, Connectors and similar products and components, and SC 9, Installations and systems. Ms. Boehme has been involved with the ANSI-ISO Forum since its establishment and has served as the forum's chair since 2006. In 2012, she was a recipient of an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Meritorious Service Award, honoring her outstanding contributions to the U.S. voluntary standardization system. Ms. Boehme received her bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

NFPA, an ANSI member, is a nonprofit organization tasked with strengthening the greater fluid power industry by supporting awareness of fluid power technology, encouraging innovation in the field, and providing a forum where fluid power stakeholders can meet for collaboration. NFPA members include fluid power manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and educators.


The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, named Lindsay Johnston to the position of senior vice president, operations. In this new position, Ms. Johnston will be tasked with advancing SCTE objectives across the full spectrum of the society's divisions and activities, including executing important business development and marketing initiatives.

Prior to joining SCTE, Ms. Johnston served as senior vice president, human resources, at Comcast Programming Properties, where she oversaw the transition of 5,000 Comcast employees to policies and procedures associated with NBCUniversal. She was also vice president, human resources, at PJM Interconnection, and vice president, human resources for Autotrader.com, among other positions. Ms. Johnston received her bachelor of arts degree in history and literature from Lafayette College and her law degree from Villanova Law School.

SCTE is a non-profit professional association that provides technical leadership for the telecommunications industry and serves its members through professional development, standards, certification, and information. SCTE currently has nearly 14,000 members from the U.S. and 70 countries worldwide, and offers a variety of programs and services for the industry's educational benefit.
