ACIL Announces Smart Grid Testing and Certification Workshop for September in Maryland

8/23/2012

The American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) will hold a Smart Grid testing and certification workshop on September 11-12, 2012, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Founded in 1937, ACIL - a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) - represents professional scientific and engineering firms that carry out testing, research and development, and product certification, and works to advance the interests of the testing industry.

U.S. industry and quality of life are heavily dependent on the nation's aging electrical grid, which is expected to require up to 200 billion dollars in new investment in the coming years. The planned development of a modernized, nationwide Smart Grid will make use of innovations in information and communication technologies to enable efficient and reliable two-way flows of energy, bolster the system's flexibility, and reduce power imbalances and outages.

The September workshop will examine the most recent information on Smart Grid interoperability, as well as related technology developments. Keith Greenaway and Roger Muse of ACLASS, a brand of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board, will address the workshop, along with 12 other speakers including representatives of ACIL and other relevant groups.

The workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on September 11 and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 12. Online registration for the workshop - along with a complete agenda - is available on this page.
